How to speak like a true Dub: H-L

Howl
Great gas, great craic, great fun, as in "He's a howl" or "It was/We had a howl". The word sometimes has an ironic usage, a sense of laughing at someone or something rather than with them.
Jo Maxi
A taxi.
The 'Joy
Mountjoy Prison, immortalised by Brendan behan, one of its former inmates. Conditions are so bad now in its ancient buildings that plans are in train to replace it with a new prison at a different location. For the moment though, "The Auld Triangle" still "goes jingle jangle all along the banks of the Royal Canal."
An Lár
See The Pillar
